Relationship Reflection

Relationships are important to me because they help build up a person's social and emotional developments. My husband is my best friend and we share so much with each other. My mom and dad are my mentors without them I don't know where I would be! It is very important to keep these relationships positive and strong because you never know when you will need that ear to vent too or that shoulder to cry on. My husband is my rock and I couldn't ask for anything else.

In childcare relationships are very important, everyone should be on the same page when working with children. Having a positive relationship with the caregiver of your child will benefit them.

When I Think of Child Development

This quote alone speaks volumes! we are our children learn from adults and mentors  its up to us to show them a good example.

Testing for Intelligence?

When considering a commitment to viewing young children holistically, the progress young children make in all developmental areas is a continuous and ongoing assessment.  On-going assessment is a responsible form of gathering real information on young children's progress.  One of the most comprehensive on-going assessment techniques is the student portfolio (Guddemi, 2003) which is a flexible and adaptable collection over time of various concrete work samples showing many dimensions of the child’s learning. The collection of these work samples along with the regularly recorded observations of children's interactions and comments serve to show children's progress over time and in a variety of situations. Information gained in this process can also be used in the planning of work that addresses the needs of the child as evidenced in the collection of work samples and teacher observations. And most importantly, it can be used as a tool in the sharing of progress with the child's family and with the child herself (Grace, 2001).


Assessments in China

For many teachers, the focus on performance--both instruction and assessment--is a new thought. Generations of language learners have completed course requirements that measured their ability to regurgitate information about aspects of the language at the expense of being able to use the languge. While traditional testing is still widely used and serves its prescribed purpose, classroom assessment should align with what students have learned and how they have learned. Because the goal of curriculum is for language use, it is important to require students to apply the newly gained communicative competence to similar but different contexts. This ability to transfer is similar to what happens in real life.
Among the assessment tools that teacher will use for classroom assessment include:

• Performance-based assessment tasks
• Self assessments
• Peer assessments
• Teacher observations
• Portfolios
• Quizzes and Tests

External Assessments A growing array of standardized, external assessments is available to measure student performance and program effectiveness.With the exception of Lingua Folio, which focuses on students' self-assessment and reflection, the testing instruments listed below allow the program to compare its results with those of other students and programs nationally and internationally. Most of these assessments are fee-based, and complete information about each can be obtained by contacted the organization.

Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

For this assignment I decided to write about racism. My mother was subjected to this when she was a young girl. My mother is from Santo Domingo, which is in the Dominican Republic. Its a beautiful country with a lot of poverty. Out of her brothers and sisters my mother is the darkest. In that country being darker is frown upon, people treat you differently and not for the best. My mom told me she would be upset when children would call her names, but my grandmother always told her not to listen to anyone she is beautiful. My mother embraced her skin color and grew up to be a great mother.












Currently in the Dominican Republic, this issue still remains the same. They rather distance themselves from their Afro roots than embrace them. This has always been a issue with the country for many generations. This kind of self hate is devastating to children who may not be as strong as my mother was, this will make them sad and they would separate themselves form others.  I just wish this country would get pass this and all come together!

Child Development and Public Health

Breastfeeding is very important to me because I breastfed all three of my kids until the age of one. I advocate to anyone who can breastfeed that it is the best choice for their child. Breastfeeding provides many nutrients to the child and builds the immune system as well. I also looked into breastfeeding around the world, it is taught that it is very important for the child and the mother. Even in the areas where it maybe bad living conditions mother's are encouraged to breastfed their children to fight off illness and diseases.

Childbirth in your life and around the world

My experience;

With my youngest son, my water slowly leaked while I was 2 hours away from home. I was in D.C. with my oldest child on a appointment when I felt wet. Of course I thought maybe I used the bathroom on my self but when I got to the restroom I noticed it wasn't me using the bathroom on myself. So I drove myself from D.C. to VA to have my son. He was three weeks early with no warning or contractions he came 10 hours later.  I did request a epidural but the way it was put in left me in pain and for the first 3 months of my son's life I had extreme back pain. The impact this has on child development is knowing what can stress you and your child out during the birthing process.


Around the World;

I choose the Dominican Republic to research the birth process in that country, The rate of caesarean in that country is 31.3% the reason behind it is its quicker, and the Doctor gets paid more to perform a caesarean than a vaginal birth. They also hold a high death rate of mother's who may bleed to death due to overcrowding hospitals due to undocumented Hatian's. Its sad that this country can't have more help when it comes to overcrowding of the hospital, also no way to make sure women are getting good prenatal care.

Ending of a great semster

As we come to the end of this class, I take away a lot of useful references and guides to use in the future of my career. I'm very thankful for what I have learned from Dr. Dartt and my fellow classmates.
